Important Announcement: Schools closed for the remainder of June
Canadian Rockies Public Schools, Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools, and Greater Southern Catholic and Francophone Regional Authority have the following announcement for students and families.
The recent flooding in the Bow Valley has had a profound emotional impact on families in Banff, Canmore, Exshaw and the surrounding areas. We understand this is a difficult time for many of our friends, families, and supporters, and our thoughts and prayers go out to all those impacted by this crisis.
Our three schools divisions have communicated and made a number of common decisions due to our circumstances in the Bow Valley. For our school divisions to resume normal operations in the Bow Valley at this time could create unsafe and impractical conditions. Given this, our three systems will take the following actions:
- Canadian Rockies Public Schools will be closing all schools in its system for the remainder of the school year. Canadian Rockies will, however, be providing students with an opportunity to write Diploma Exams at writing centers at Canmore Collegiate High School and Banff High School.
- Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools will be closing Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy in Canmore for the remainder of the year. Our Lady of the Snows will, however, be providing students with an opportunity to write Diploma Exams should they so desire. More information is available on our website.
- Greater Southern Catholic and Francophone Regional Authority will be closing Ecole Notre Dame des Monts in Canmore for the remainder of the year. Ecole Notre Dame des Monts will, however, be providing students with an opportunity to write Diploma Exams should they so desire. More information will be sent via email.
For more detailed information for Canadian Rockies Public Schools, it is critical that you visit the front page of our website – www.crps.ab.ca
Further information for Ecole Notre Dame de Monts will be sent via email to parents.

Q and A: Canadian Rockies Public Schools
Q: What is the status for Canadian Rockies Public Schools (CRPS) schools next week (the remainder of the school year)?
A: All schools in CRPS will be closed for students next week. At the high school level, students will have the opportunity to write Diploma Exams, but all other exams will be cancelled. All Provincial Achievement Tests will also be cancelled.
Q: Why are you making this decision now?
A: The current situation is extremely tragic and precarious, plus the weather continues to be threatening. Communications are also difficult. We wanted to make this decision as early as possible to allow our families to plan accordingly. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by the flood.
Q: What about Diploma Exams for CRPS students?
A: Bow Valley schools are closed in CRPS for the remainder of the school year. Although it is not recommended, Canmore Collegiate and Banff High School students who feel that they must write their Diploma Exams will be able to write their exams at either Canmore Collegiate and/or Banff High School. If you choose to write the exam, please report to the school office of your choice and indicate your circumstances on the day of the exam and the staff will look after you. Request for exemptions, however, will be granted to students who do not write their exams due to school closure. Therefore, if you do not write the exam on the designated day and time scheduled you will automatically be exempted. Unfortunately, transportation services will not be provided.
Q: What if I am not prepared to write my Diploma exam next week, but would like to write my Diploma exam in August (if you do not write your exam in August your next option would be to write in January 2014)?
A: You must report to the administration office on the day of your scheduled exam next week to register for the August writing date.
Q: So if final exams are cancelled, how will my child’s mark be determined?
A: Your child’s mark will be determined based on their year’s work to date. We are confident that this will be an accurate representation of their year’s learning.
Q: In grades k-12, how will I access my child’s report card?
A: We will make every effort to provide your child a report card by the school year’s end. If we are unable to do so, we will let you know our alternative plans, likely on a school by school basis.
Q: How will we get our child’s personal belongings?
A: All schools in both divisions in the Bow Valley will be open on Thursday, June 27th(8am – 4pm) for you to collect your child’s belongings.
