Our Young Explorers program…

We’re getting ready for the spring edition of the BES Young Explorers program! The Young Explorers program runs twice a year, once in the Fall and once in the Spring.  Each class from Kindergarten to Grade 6 spends the day outside learning experientially about nature and cultural history.  Each year, the program is specifically designed for each grade to cover areas of the curriculum including science and social studies in a way that fosters a sense of connection to and appreciation for the landscape and history of Banff.  Students learn to think like an explorer and view the natural world with awe and wonder.

Year by year, the classes build upon each other and reinforce the importance of opening the senses, observing and describing, understanding natural processes and the connection between individuals and their environment. The cultural history of Banff from First Nations to current events is also explored.  Students are encouraged to think critically and figure out answers for themselves.  Further programs are being developed to include a winter tracking experience throughout  the grades and a teamwork, cooperation, and problem solving adventure experience for each grade.
