New Kindergarten Option for 2016-2017
For many years, there has been a strong interest expressed by Banff parents and community for a French education for their Kindergarten child, yet the commitment of accessing the immersion program in Canmore presents some limitations, such as the long bus ride for four and five-year olds. This year, BES offered French experience to K-3 students. Looking ahead to next year, a full day Kindergarten: half French immersion and half English program will be offered at BES for the 2016-2017 school year, in addition to the full and half day English program. This will help inform parents’ decision of which program best fits the needs and interests of their Kindergarten child. This program must meet a minimum of 18 students to move ahead. In the best interest of all Kindergarten students, the school reserves the right to balance classes. A transition plan from Kindergarten to Grade 1 is in place for next April, for those students whose parents decide to continue with French immersion in Canmore. For more information please attend the Kindergarten Open House.

Bridging Community with Food Bank Donations - by Grade 3
As part of our Science curriculum in Grade 3, students are exploring a unit on "Strength of Materials and Testing". The students brainstormed and came up with an idea to build a bridge with food bank donations. We are asking for your help to collect as many non-perishable items as possible by March 10th. Items that could be donated are: cans, dry food products in boxes, dishwashing liquid, toiletry items such as paper towel, toilet paper and soap. We are calling our project, "Bridging Community". If you are able to help out the Grade 3 students, please send items with your child. They can bring them to their own class and we will have the Grade 3 students collect from the classrooms each day. During the two weeks prior to Spring Break they will be constructing a bridge out of recyclable materials. We will take a picture to share of the final project. After the unveiling, we will take apart the bridge and deliver the donations to the Food Bank in Banff. Thank you in advance for any donations you are able to make.
