Lunch Program Volunteering, School Fees, Grand Opening : September 15, 2017

Spotlight on Learning
The Grade 7 Leadership Course at Canadian Rockies Outdoor Centre was a wonderful experience for our new Division 3 students to learn, live and grow together. 42 students joined six staff for a two day field trip to Bow Valley Provincial Park and learned how to provide First Aid for injuries that occur outdoors, how to be mindful and learn more about one’s own qualities, how to collaborate as a team in order to get a task completed efficiently and how to restore vegetation after trail building disturbs its growth. The highlights were the morning run with Ms Thomson, watching the sun set, the hike up to Grassi Lakes and of course ...the group chores!

Lunch Program
Ordering is now closed for the first session. This is a purely volunteer run program.  We are in need of volunteers to ensure this program can run. Please contact our volunteer coordinator Kelsie Fodor at kelsiefodor@hotmail.com to volunteer.   We cannot run the program without the help of volunteers.

School Fees
In accordance to Bill 1, school fees have been reduced. Bill 1 amended the School Act and therefore there are no longer fees for instructional supplies and materials.  Extracurricular school fees are now finalized and available on Parent Portal https://powerschool.crps.ca/public/.  No paper copy will be sent home. School fees can be paid by cash or cheque (made payable to Banff Elementary School) at the school office (please include a copy of your invoice with your payment). Debit or Credit card payment is only available online through Powerschool Parent Portal. Payment is due in full by October 31, 2017.

Youth Drop In
The Town of Banff, in partnership with the Banff Canmore Community Foundation, is starting a youth drop in this school year for grade 7-10’s. The Community Foundation has renovated the basement space and we are wanting to open it up to students on Monday – Thursdays from 3-6:30 pm. They can come to do homework, hang out with friends, do art projects, play games, etc. There will be a Town of Banff youth worker supervising every day to help support the program. We are having an open house on Monday, September 18th for the grade 7’s only from 3:05-4:30 pm. Colin (Griz) will meet any students interested in checking out the space at BES and then walk over with them. This is a drop in program at no cost, so they can use it whenever they want! But if you can help encourage your child to come check out the basement to help give us feedback on Monday, that would be great! If you have any questions about this new drop in, please contact Colin at colin.harris@banff.ca.

Grand Opening!
The Grand Opening for phase 1 of the new school will be held Tuesday, September 26 at 2:00pm.  Representatives from Alberta Learning, our Board Chair Carol Picard and Trustees Luke Sunderland and Arlene Rheaume will be on hand.
