October 26, 2018 : Scare Hunger Away, Halloween Parade, School Fees, Basketball Coaches Needed, Picture Retake Day

Spotlight on Learning

The Grade 8 Outdoor Education provided an opportunity for our born in Canada students to coach our new to Canada students how to make pancakes!  Our visiting students from China enjoyed pancakes with maple syrup for the first time!

A heartwarming story shared by Coach Tracey Rewerts:  The Exshaw girl’s team arrived at the Gr. 7 Volleyball tournament with only three players. Our Banff girls stepped in and played as teammates so Exshaw could stay in the tournament. Our girls were excited to help out. Exshaw won their first game! By afternoon, the Exshaw team gained one more player so they had four team members and could compete on their own accord without our girls. Exshaw went on to win the entire tournament with only 4 players. The best part is our girls were so excited for Exshaw! Helping the Exshaw team was more gratifying than if the girls had they won the tournament. We at BES are so proud of them!

Scare Hunger Away

This October for Halloween, Banff Elementary School is going to SCARE HUNGER AWAY.
Once again BES is collecting food for the Bow Valley food bank. We have boxes in the front foyer that say "We SCARE hunger" to place your food items in by November 1st. Spirit council has set a goal this year to collect 200 food items by Halloween. Please help us out and send a non perishable food item to school with your child. Together we can make a difference!

Halloween Parade
To ensure we meet Fire Safety regulations, our Halloween parade will have a modified route. Parents are invited to meet in the gym as per tradition at 1:30pm.  Kindergarten, Gr. 1 and Gr. 2 students will meet in the gym, while remaining grades will tour through the gym and around the school.

School Fees
A reminder that school fees are due on October 31st.  A statement of your account is available on Powerschool - Parent Portal.  Please pay school fees by Debit or Credit Card online through Powerschool - Parent Portal (https://powerschool.crps.ca/public/).  If this is not possible, payment can also be made by cash (exact change) or cheque (made payable to Banff Elementary School) at the school office.

Basketball Coaches Needed
Anyone keen to share their love of the game?  We are looking for coaches/co-coaches/assistant coaches for the Grade 7 boys and Grade 8 girls basketball teams. Even if you’re not available for every practice or game, your help would still be appreciated. Please contact the office if you or anyone you know is interested and available for this exciting opportunity to spend time with our awesome Division 3 students.

Co-Parenting Workshop
November 1 & 3 at Banff Town Hall. This workshop offers skills, strategies, resources and support for participants who are moving through the process of separation and divorce.  Please click here for more information and how to register. Registration deadline October 25, 2018.

Picture Retake day
Picture Day portrait proofs have been sent home.  Please follow the instructions included in the package to order online (more photo options when you place an order online) or send your order back to your child’s homeroom teacher by October 25th.  Retakes are on Wednesday, November 7, in the morning only. Retakes require your child to bring their proof package back to the photographer. If you have lost the proof package, please send a note to request a retake. If your child missed the original picture day they can have their picture taken on retake day.
