Homepage Homepage Spotlight on Learning - Bison Grade 4 students from Morley to Lake Louise were fortunate to have been invited to participate in Bringing Back the Bison program on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum here in Banff.  Students learned about the cultural and ecological importance of the bison reintroduction. The program included a series of activities to connect youth with the reintroduction, including first-hand stories, an elder’s talk about their relationship to the bison, and a bison craft. This learning experience aligns with the Social Studies and Aboriginal Perspectives and Experiences unit in Grade 4. Homepage Homepage Spotlight on Learning - Reading The size of a child’s vocabulary is an accurate predictor of academic achievement.  (Hirsch, 2013)  Learning to read well is worthwhile work.  Good readers read for meaning.  They make connections, ask questions, draw inferences, visualize and synthesize information.  One of the best things about teaching children to read is how they continually surprise us with their thinking.   Teachers are always thinking about, talking about and learning about teaching reading. Homepage Homepage Spotlight on Learning - Writing This photo shows some Grade 1 students rereading a class book.  Writing skills (along with many other skills) progress very quickly in grade one.  The improvement was so significant for some, they didn’t even recognize their own writing! Please click here to view the iMovie. Homepage Homepage Lego Club Gr.4 and 5 students have been busy building Lego structures during lunch.
