This past Tuesday, staff pulled together to create welcoming, organized learning spaces for students in a single day! Our new, flexible learning spaces are designed to foster collaboration, creativity and access to technology as a learning tool. Thank you to Kindergarten for expressing our goodbyes so beautifully. Professional Development Friday, May 31, 2019 12:01 pm dismissal for Gr. 1 - 8 No Kindergarten Classes   Recess & Lunch As deconstruction begins on the old building May 27, our play space will be impacted. The following plan will be in place on Monday, enabling children to enjoy outside play time. To facilitate offsite play time, lunch recess will begin at 11:55. To accommodate the additional minutes at lunch, morning recess/snack will be shortened to 10 minutes. Banff Bylaw and RCMP will support our crossing of Banff Ave. whenever they are available.   Kindergarten students and supervisors will walk over to the Banff Child Care Centre (behind BES on Big Horn St.), who have graciously offered us the use of their outdoor play spaces. The Town of Banff has also given us access to the forest lands beside the Banff Child Care Centre. Kindergarten students and supervisors will prepare to walk back at 12:20. Grades 1-6 students will walk over to the BCHS field with their teachers. Grade 1-6 students and supervisors will prepare to walk back in grade groups at 12:20. BCHS is sharing the storage box with us to store play equipment (soccer balls, pylons, skipping ropes). Students will use the BCHS washrooms/fountains and will be accompanied by an adult. They are not permitted to use the public washrooms. *If you are picking up/dropping off your child for any reason, please plan on picking up or dropping off before 11:55 or after 12:30. Drop-offs/pick-ups will not be permitted from the BCHS field. This will help us keep track off all students in our care. Intramurals in the gym will be offered from 12:00-12:30 for Gr. 4-6 on a rotating schedule. Gr. 7 & 8 students will have access to the Ancillary room (across from the gym) from 12:00 to 12:54 to eat lunch and socialize. Gr. 7 & 8 intramurals will run daily from 12:30-12:54. *Please note students are permitted to purchase a (reasonably!) healthy lunch and return to school to enjoy it. If junk food and unhealthy beverages are purchased, students are asked to please consume offsite. Our rationale is twofold: we encourage students to make healthy choices, and we would like to minimize the recycling/garbage generated.   Hot Lunch will be served at noon for Grades 7 & 8 and at 12:30 for Grades K-6 on Tuesdays/Thursdays. Family Spring Fling Dance May 30 5:00 - 7:00 pm in the new BES Gym All family members welcome!   Bring/wear something that reminds you of spring. Please click here for more details. Please note the occupancy date is beyond our control. As many of you know, construction has its own timeline! Movers have been booked over the weekend and staff will be setting up classrooms to ensure safe, welcoming learning spaces for students on Wednesday, May 22. This closure will be confirmed next week once we have a firm occupancy date. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. It may seem odd to be moving at this time of the year, rather than waiting until summer. This time is required to accommodate the decommissioning and demolition of the old BES building and restoration of the new field (so we may have somewhere to play in the fall!).
