Spotlight on Learning - Reading
The size of a child’s vocabulary is an accurate predictor of academic achievement. (Hirsch, 2013) Learning to read well is worthwhile work. Good readers read for meaning. They make connections, ask questions, draw inferences, visualize and synthesize information. One of the best things about teaching children to read is how they continually surprise us with their thinking. Teachers are always thinking about, talking about and learning about teaching reading.
