Lunch Program, School Fees, Parking, Before School Care : September 7, 2017

Spotlight on Learning
The new school feels complete now that the students are here!  The entire school has a warm, energetic, positive atmosphere.  We are thrilled to welcome your children back for another great year of learning and fun.

Professional Development Day
Friday, September 8, 2017
12:01 pm dismissal for Gr. 1 to 7
Assembly 9:30 am - Everyone welcome!

Lunch Program
The school council is thrilled to continue our lunch days program using the Munchalunch online ordering system. This program is a fundraiser for school council and provides the opportunity for parents to buy nutritious and appetizing lunches for their children on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a purely volunteer run program.  We are in need of volunteers.  Please contact our volunteer coordinator Kelsie Fodor at to volunteer.  You can also sign up on the MunchaLunch website when completing your child's order.  We cannot run the program without the help of volunteers.  The order system will open September 8th and close September 14th.  Please click here for further information and ordering details.

School Fees
In accordance to Bill 1, school fees have been reduced. Bill 1 amended the School Act and therefore there are no longer fees for instructional supplies and materials.  School fees are not yet finalized; however they are starting to appear on Parent Portal as we work on the fees.  Payment is not due until an invoice for extra curricular fees and lunch supervision is sent home later this month. Payment options and details will be provided at that time.

Take 5
Thank you to Right from the Start (RFTS) for hosting our first ‘Take 5’ of the year this morning.  It is a wonderful way to start the day.

Parent Parking, Pick-up and Drop-off
You may have noticed the new signs on Squirrel Street.  There are three sections:  a 5 minute drop-off zone, a bus zone, and a parking zone (please note the bus zone will be reduced in size in the coming weeks).  The drop off zone is intended for strictly that:  dropping off/picking up your child.  Please do not park your car in that zone.  Parking is available on Elk & Moose Streets, and continues to be available on Big Horn.  Students are welcome to exit the connector to the rear and meet you on Big Horn, as parking may be easier for you on Big Horn.

Morning Supervision
Doors are opened at 8:20 am (the front door at 8 am).  There is staff on supervision both inside and outside the school.  Please help your child find a routine that works best for them; some children benefit from being active outside until the bell rings, others benefit from a calming break and may wish to come inside to sit quietly.

Before School Care
Before School Care begins Monday, September 11!  If your child requires before school care (7:30-8:30 am), please register using the google form on the BES website or click here for the link.  Details will be emailed to registered families on Friday.

Interested in working at BES?
We are hiring two supervisors this year; a lunchroom supervisor (11:00am-1:00pm) and a Before School Care Supervisor (7:15-8:30am).  Please see the postings on the CRPS website (under Employment Opportunities) if you are interested in applying.

Open House, September 13
Everyone is encouraged to drop in between 5:00 - 6:00 pm to visit your child(ren)’s class and participate in a school oriented scavenger hunt with your child.  Please begin with your child(ren)’s classroom.

Grand Opening!
The Grand Opening for phase 1 of the new school will be held Tuesday, September 26 at 2:00pm.  Representatives from Alberta Learning, our Board Chair Carol Picard and Trustees Luke Sunderland and Arlene Rheaume will be on hand.

Grade 7 Leadership Course
Our grade seven students will be participating in an overnight leadership course next week at the Outdoor Learning Centre.  Stay tuned for highlights!

Gr. 7 Volleyball
Girls volleyball begins on Thursday (today).  Boys volleyball is still in need of volunteers and we are hoping to get started next week - more details to follow.  All grade seven students are encouraged to come out and play.  This is a great opportunity to be active and learn some new skills!
