School Fees, Attendance Line, Healthy & Safe Community Month : October 5, 2017

Spotlight on Learning
Thank you to Shawn Carr (co-chair of School Council and organizer of this initiative) and the volunteers for decommissioning the playground.  In order to be able to donate the playground, it had to be taken apart piece by piece.  The Emmanuel Foundation were thrilled with the quality of the playground and have promised us a photo once the playground has been relocated to its new home in a developing nation.  We hope the children find comfort in knowing it has gone to children who have never before had a playground.

Attendance Line
To ensure a safe and caring school environment, Banff Elementary School has an “Attendance Line” to assist in tracking students’ attendance. Parents are asked to use the process below when notifying our school about an attendance issue for your child(ren).

1. Dial 403-762-4465 and you will be connected to the school’s Voice Mail system.
2. When you hear the main greeting, press ‘1’ which is our school’s “Attendance Line” extension.
3. Follow the online prompt. The information that our school typically would like to acquire is:
Name of Parent
Name of Student
Grade of Student
Dates of Absence
Reason for Absence
Example:  “Hello. This is John Doe. My son William Doe, Grade 4A, will be absent Monday, September 16 because of illness.”
4. After leaving your message you may hang up.

Terry Fox Run
Again this year our students joined BCHS for their Terry Fox run.  Our students also enjoyed the stories, found meaning in the messages and were awed by the amazing facts around this true Canadian hero during our assembly.  Our school goal was to raise $600 for Cancer research; we well surpassed that goal.  BES raised $856.90!  We once again proved that we can all make a difference.

Healthy & Safe Community Month (October)
We are focussing on many aspects of Comprehensive School Health and Safety in which every student will be involved. Students will practice safety expectations and be taught through various learning activities by guest speakers from our community.  The Banff Fire Department is hosting an open house and pancake breakfast to recognize Fire Prevention Week on Saturday, October 14th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm - please click here for more details.
