School Notification System, School Travel Planning, Kindergarten Registration : January 12, 2018
Spotlight on Learning
Reading is an essential skill. Children are learning to read fluently, decode (say/read the words that are on the page) and most importantly, be able to think about and understand what they are reading. Teachers at BES continue to work on our school goal of identifying and using the best instructional practices to meet the literacy needs of our students. Teachers read with students one-on-one and in small groups using high quality literature.
Full Day Friday

Full day of school (8:30 - 3:05) Grades K - 7
School Notification System
Canadian Rockies Public Schools will be using a NEW school notification system called SchoolMessenger to replace the existing system in the near further. In addition to email and phone calls, this new system will allow the school to deliver urgent messages like attendance alert and last-minute cancellations by text message (opt-in required). A letter/form with details has been sent home with your child. Please update and return the form to your child’s homeroom teacher.
School Travel Planning
How are students currently travelling to school and are there safety challenges? Please, please take a moment to complete the Family survey (click the link). Our goal is for more than 60% of our families to complete the survey. Incentive? If we can achieve more than 60% participation, we will build a scooter rack! Please click here for more details and to take the 8 to 10 minutes survey with the eldest child who attends BES. Every single family’s input is important to the success of this project. This project is in partnership with Town of Banff and Canmore Community Cruisers. Thank you!

Lunch Program Volunteering and Ordering
The Lunch Program needs your help! VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY! The Lunch Program, supported by School Council, is a team of four volunteers that help to coordinate the program for the school year. Unfortunately one of our parent volunteers had to unexpectedly step away from her position as Volunteer Coordinator. If this something you are interested in please reach out to Joanne Geyer at the school office (training and support will be provided).
The Lunch Program is more than just a healthy meal for your kids 2 times a week throughout the school year. This program is essential in generating funds for a variety of extras, that go a long way in supporting and enhancing our children’s educational experience. Did you know that the program generates over $15,000 in additional funds to support our “Mountain Living Program” (Nature Explores, Outdoor pursuits, Music and Dance)?
We cannot run the program without the help of volunteers. The order system will open next week - please watch for details..
Pick up and Drop off using Squirrel Street
The school bus zone is located between the new crosswalk and the signs by the connector. We are working with the town to improve the signage. In the meantime, please refrain from parking in the bus zone. Thank you for your assistance.
For your child’s safety please:
- Teach them to cross the road using the crosswalk
- When dropping off your child, please pull over to a safe location; NO double parking.
