Lunch Days Program, Kindergarten Registration, Report Cards, School Travel Planning : January 19, 2018

Spotlight on Learning
The power of simple machines!  A grade four task this week was to build a paper car and test its travelling distance without an axle or wheels, and a second time with an axle and wheels.  Alexa, Kaiser and Kotomi shared their top three takeaways:  ensure wheels are securely fastened (when one wheel falls off, the other wheel and axle continue on an erratic path!), the axle (in this case a skewer inside a straw) must be straight or the car is unable to travel in a straight line, and wheels and axles go significantly further than an object (the car) without either an axle or wheels, due to the wheels rolling movement creating less friction.

Lunch Days Program
The school council is thrilled to continue our lunch days program using the MunchaLunch online ordering system. This program is a fundraiser for school council and provides the opportunity for parents to buy nutritious and appetizing lunches for their children on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a purely volunteer run program.  We are in need of volunteers to serve the food and to pick up items.  Please sign up to volunteer on the MunchaLunch website when completing your child's order.  There is a volunteer link to choose dates that would work best for you.  You can also contact Patti Secord, our new Lunch Program Volunteer Coordinator, at to volunteer. We cannot run the program without the help of volunteers.  The order system is now open and the order deadline is January 23rd.  Please click here for more information and ordering details.

Report Cards
Teachers are in the process of writing report cards. A digital version will be available on Parent Portal.  Parents will be able to see marks* in Parent Portal as they are inputted over the next few weeks.  *Please note these marks are not final until January 31st.

School Travel Planning
How are students currently travelling to school and are there safety challenges?  Please, please take a moment to complete the Family survey (click the link).  Our goal is for more than 60% of our families to complete the survey.  Incentive?  If we can achieve more than 60% participation, we will build a scooter rack!  Please click here for more details and to take the 8 to 10 minutes survey with the eldest child who attends BES.  Every single family’s input is important to the success of this project. This project is in partnership with Town of Banff and Canmore Community Cruisers.  Thank you!
