Spotlight on Learning

Education Week is every week, but this past week was extra special!  Here are three examples of authentic learning tasks teachers designed for our learners:  Gr. 2’s curated a museum featuring artifacts from three different Canadian communities (Social Studies curriculum), Gr. 6’s are conducting interviews and writing articles for the class newspaper, and Kindergarten students are exploring and comparing a wide variety of cultures (the photo features Azerbaijan).

Full Day Friday
Friday, May 11th (two in a row!)
Full day of school (8:30 - 3:05) Grades 1 - 7
No classes for Kindergarten Students

Next Year: Moving?
Please help us in our planning for next year by informing the office if your child is NOT attending Banff Elementary School for the 2018-19 school year.

Mental Health Week
May 7 - 11
At BES we'll be sharing smiles on Monday, doing chalk art on Tuesday, hosting Take 5! and Hats On for Mental Health on Wednesday, enjoying dance on Thursday and facilitating a Chain of Compliments on Friday.
Please join Right from the Start for Take 5! on Wednesday, May 9 starting at 8:15 am. Take five extra minutes with your child before going on your way. At the same time you can participate in a fundraiser organized by some grade 6 students to raise money for JP, a local paramedic and firefighter, who was injured in an accident. The students are selling used toys and books to raise money. You can get a jumpstart on your spring cleaning by donating used toys and books for the sale. Please bring any items to the front office and place them under the stairs before May 9th. Thank you!

Nature Explorers Volunteers
It’s time for Spring Nature Explorers!  Over the next several weeks classes will be learning outside for longer periods and farther afield.  We need at least one parent volunteer per class to meet a safe ratio of adults to students. If you are willing and able to volunteer, THANK YOU:)  You can sign up online at the following link:  Some grades may be getting an additional permission form.  This form is required as a new CRPS policy for full day trips that are a bit farther than walking distance from school.  These types of trips only happen once or twice a year and the rest are covered by the beginning of the year field trip permission form.

BES Student Dance Performance
