Spotlight on Learning

Can you see the excitement of beginning a new year in this photo?  Welcome back from all the staff! It is our mission to make you and your family feel welcome and cared for (this includes learning) at BES.

Full Day Friday
Friday, September 14th
Full day of school (8:30 - 3:05) Grades 1 - 8 (No Kindergarten this day)

Lunch Program
School Council is thrilled to continue our lunch days program using the MunchaLunch online ordering system. The first lunch session will run from September 18 - January 31. This program is a fundraiser for School Council and provides the opportunity for parents to buy nutritious and appetizing lunches for their children on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a purely volunteer run program.  We are in need of volunteers.  Please contact our volunteer coordinator Gabby DeBaie at to volunteer.  You can also sign up on the MunchaLunch website when completing your child's order.  We cannot run the program without the help of volunteers.  The order system is now open and will close September 13.  Please click here for further information and ordering details.

School Fees
School fees are not yet finalized; however they are starting to appear on Parent Portal as we work on the fees.  Payment is not due until an invoice for extra curricular fees and lunch supervision is sent home later this month. Payment options and details will be provided at that time.  In accordance to Bill 1, school fees have been reduced. Bill 1 amended the School Act and therefore there are no longer fees for instructional supplies and materials.

Parent Parking, Pick-up and Drop-off
There are three sections for parking/drop off on Squirrel Street: a 5 minute drop-off zone, a bus zone, and a parking zone.  The drop off zone is intended for strictly that: dropping off/picking up your child. Please do not park your car in that zone. The bus zone is for buses. Please no parking or dropping off in this zone!  Parking is available on Elk, Moose and Big Horn Streets. Students are welcome to exit the connector to the rear and meet you on Big Horn, as parking may be easier for you on Big Horn.

Good Morning!
Doors are opened at 8:20 am (the front door at 8:00 am).  There is staff on supervision both inside and outside the school.  Students may go to their classroom anytime between 8:20 and 8:30 (please not before 8:20 as teachers are preparing for the day).  Please help your child find a routine that works best for them; some children benefit from being active outside until the bell rings, others benefit from a calming break and may wish to come inside to sit quietly.  Note: the first bell rings at 8:25 am and classes start promptly at 8:30 am.

After School Pick-up
Please wait for your child at 3:05 pm outside, in the front foyer, upstairs in the original building, or in the connector.  Students will be needing space to put on their outdoor boots/shoes. Please remove your footwear when entering the school to help students keep their socks clean and dry and our school looking its finest.

Before School Care
Juggling work and family can be challenging. We at Banff Elementary School would like to support families by offering before school care starting at 7:30 am. This is a free service for BES families. If your child requires before school care (7:30-8:25 am), please register using the google form on the BES website or click here for the link.

Meet the Staff & Family Potluck BBQ, September 12
BES Staff would like to invite families to join us for a BBQ and potluck the evening of Wednesday, September 12 from 5:00-6:30 pm.  We will provide hot dogs and veggie dogs and are asking families to bring one dish to share to round out the meal. Please bring plates, cutlery and something to drink (non-alcoholic) for your family.  We will be setting up BBQs on the tarmac (at the back of the school) and the gym doors will be open. It is expected to rain, so please dress for the weather! We will enjoy our meal together from 5:00-5:50 pm.  Meet the teacher will be from 5:50-6:30 pm.

Grade 7 Leadership Course
Our grade seven students will be participating in an overnight leadership course next week at the Outdoor Learning Centre.  Stay tuned for highlights!
