October 12, 2018 : Hot Lunch Volunteers needed, Science Fair, Scare Hunger Away, Community Concert, Caribou Ski Pass

Spotlight on Learning

Our division 3 athletics are an important part of students’ sense of belonging, skill development and exercising sportsmanship.  Photos above are from the Gr. 7 girls volleyball game with OLS last evening. There was great spirit in our gym! The cross-country running team participated in zones in Okotoks and were excellent representatives for our community.  The third photo is our hard-working staff learning more about formative assessment strategies on Friday, October 5th.

Hot Lunch Volunteers Needed
Hot lunch has been in full swing since late September, but our volunteer numbers are short this year - this program cannot run without volunteers. First off the team truly appreciates all the returning hot lunch servers and we are happy to see some new faces! We all have work, volunteer and family commitments, but we are still actively looking for servers to make the service run smoothly. If you can even help with one service during this first session it would be greatly appreciated. You do not have to commit to multiple days! I am also still looking for a couple parents to help pick up the Nesters donation for Thursdays. If you can't help with food service, but you have time to pick up the donation either Wednesday evening or Thursday morning and prep the fruit or veg (an hour at the most of your time) it will help us! Please email Gabby DeBaie, Volunteer Coordinator, at gdebaie@gmail.com for more information or to sign up.  A big thanks to all that are helping out with this valuable program!!!

The Canadian Rockies 12th Annual Regional Science Fair
Celebrate Science in the Rockies!
The Twelfth annual Canadian Rockies Regional Science Fair will be held Tuesday, March 26th, 2019 in the Banff Elementary School gymnasium, in BANFF.  Students who attend school in the Bow Valley and are enrolled in grades 4-12 are invited to compete. This is an exciting opportunity in the Bow Valley for students to explore and discuss science in a different light...outside of the classroom!  Please click here for more information.

Scare Hunger Away

This October for Halloween, Banff Elementary School is going to SCARE HUNGER AWAY.
Once again BES is collecting food for the Bow Valley food bank. We have boxes in the front foyer that say "We SCARE hunger" to place your food items in. Spirit council has set a goal this year to collect 200 food items by Halloween. Please help us out and send a non perishable food item to school with your child. Together we can make a difference!

Banff Community Christmas Concert
The Christmas Concert Committee needs new members.  Volunteers are required for the advanced planning and organizing of this truly amazing community event.  Without volunteers the show cannot go on! Please contact Sharon Fish at banffcommunitychristmasconcert@yahoo.ca for more information.

School Council Meeting
Come one come all!  Child care will be provided.  We are meeting October 17th 3:15pm in the staff room. Parents play an important role in student success. School councils allow parents to participate in decisions that impact student learning. By contributing knowledge, perspective and ideas at school council meetings, parents are actively contributing to the success of our school community.

Caribou Kids and Youth Ski Pass
Banff Lodging Company is once again supporting Banff kids & youth ski passes at Banff Mount Norquay.  Please click here for more information and the application forms.  Applications and payments are sent to Banff Mount Norquay and will not be accepted at BES.
