Spotlight on Learning
Grade 8 Construction wrapped up this week. Thanks to the kind offer to use the woodworking shop at BCHS, Grade 8 students completed their second quarter of Career and Technology Foundations (CTF), designing and producing functional model CO2 powered dragsters. The students learnt the basic steps of engineering design and safe use of woodworking equipment to bring their ideas to fruition. The course concluded with head to head racing to test the performance of their final project! Grade 8's will now expand on design with Art as their third quarter CTF course.

Winter Walk Day - Wednesday, February 6, 2019
Winter Walk Day encourages people across Alberta to be active outdoors in winter. BES was one of 800 organizations (over 100,00 individuals) in Alberta that took part last year!  We will be walking around the old building between 8:25am and 8:35am on Wednesday, Feb 6th. Please come and join us!

Traffic Safety
Student safety to and from school is equal to safety at school. We hope we can all agree as a community that close calls require a sense of urgency to ensuring the safest environment for our children and community members. Some reminders:

  • Big Horn Street:
    • Big Horn is the main access route for the construction vehicles.  Parking is restricted on this street. Please ensure your child is safe when picking up or dropping off on this road.Squirrel Street:

Drop off and pick up only in designated areas (no parking in the bus zone). Children are expected to use the crosswalk in front of the main entrance or at a street corner.

Blocking traffic by double parking and turning around using driveways causes congestion and a safety issue. Always pick up and drop off your children in designated areas and please respect our neighbours’ driveways.

Word Smash Conference

The Word Smash - Inspiring Young Writers Conference is a full day conference being held on May 21, 2019 that calls on local authors and illustrators to present their craft while inspiring our young writers to develop their own skills and abilities. The Banff Centre has generously provided us with the Kinnear Centre for our venue which will host all 8 of our local authors. Students rotate through 5 workshops that vary between different styles of writing and illustrating. The directive of the Conference is to provide Division 2-4 students at CRPS expert exposure to local authors and illustrators in a professional world class facility and the opportunity to write. Click here to register.

Alberta Education Accountability Pillar Survey

From January to March, Alberta Education will be conducting the annual Accountability Pillar Survey. Feedback from this survey provides an opportunity for Alberta Education and school authorities to ensure that we are equipping students for success.

•     In January/February parents of students in grades 4, 7 and 10 will receive an English survey from Alberta Education in the mail - please contact the school if you do not receive a copy in the mail or if you would like the survey in one of the other seven languages available.

•     In February, students in grades 4, 7 and 10 and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school.

All surveys are anonymous and ask questions about experiences with your school. In addition to English, the parent survey is available in French, Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Cree, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog and Urdu. Please contact the school office if you would like the survey in one of these other languages.

Your participation in the survey helps provide important information on the quality of education your child is receiving. As the sample size in our area is quite small your feedback is valuable. It is very important to have as many surveys returned as possible, so we encourage you to promptly return your survey to Alberta Education.

Survey results will be available to school authorities in May, and will be reported publicly as part of the 3-Year Education Plans and Annual Education Results Reports.

Details about the Accountability Pillar and how to obtain results are available at www.education.alberta.ca/accountability.
