2019-2020 Kindergarten Open House / Registration
Kindergarten is a formative year for children and an exciting one for parents! Banff Elementary School is now accepting Kindergarten registrations for 2019-2020. New this year, online registration will be available starting in February - watch our website for more details. You are invited to our Open House on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 6:30 pm. Please extend an invitation to any families you know with Kindergarten aged children. Please click here for more information.

BES Hoodies
We are excited to introduce our new school logo that has been created by Jason Carter. Our school has worked with the celebrated Canadian artist to redesign our school bear in order to represent a school with students aged Kindergarten to Grade 8. We believe that our logo continues to represent the beliefs held in our “CUBS” code, while adjusting to the needs of our older students.
In order to celebrate our school culture, we are now selling hoodies with our new logo. Hoodies will be sold for $40. If you are interested in purchasing a hoodie for your child, please click here for the order form and send it along with cash or a cheque payable to Banff Elementary School to the office by Friday March 8, 2019. If required, paper copies are available at the office. Please note, BES must place an order for a minimum of 40 hoodies.

School Council Meeting
Come one, come all!  Child care will be provided.  We are meeting Wednesday, February 13 at 3:30 pm in the staff room. Parents play an important role in student success. School councils allow parents to participate in decisions that impact student learning. By contributing knowledge, perspective and ideas at school council meetings, parents are actively contributing to the success of our school community.

CRPS Board Meeting
Follow the link to view the agenda for the Public School Board Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Banff Community High School at 7:00 pm.

Ecosonic Playground Project - Donations Needed
The Grade 5's will be beginning a very special STEAM pilot project called the Ecosonic Playground Project in conjunction with Exshaw school and a professor of music from U. of Massachusetts Lowell in March. As this project highlights the use of recyclable materials in its focus and design, we are asking the community (and you!) to donate reusable items for our structure. The items we are asking for need to be weatherproof, durable, have the potential to create pitch and must be sized to fit on or in the PVC piping structure dimensions. Items such as plastic buckets, metal items such as chains, baking pans and grates (kitchen items), bungee cords, rubber tubing and bands (fitness bands), broken instruments or pieces that are weather-proof (metal or wood), and sports items like rackets, poles. Recyclable materials that can be used to create mallet-type objects or to attach or secure objects to the structure are also welcomed. Please click here for more information about this project. Any materials you are willing to donate can be dropped off at the BES music room over the next few weeks.

Knitting Club
Do you have any knitting needles or bits of yarn at home that you aren't using? Please consider donating them to our Division 2 Knitting Club starting up after Family Week! Please have your student bring the donation to school and drop it off at Ms. Thomson's Grade 4 room.  Thank you for supporting our Student Clubs at BES!!

Used Bike to give Away
Spring might feel like a ways away...but if your child is in need of a bike we have one to give away suitable for a 6 - 9 year old. Please contact the school office if interested.

Alberta Education Accountability Pillar Survey
From January to March, Alberta Education will be conducting the annual Accountability Pillar Survey. Feedback from this survey provides an opportunity for Alberta Education and school authorities to ensure that we are equipping students for success.

•     In January/February parents of students in grades 4, 7 and 10 will receive an English survey from Alberta Education in the mail - please contact the school if you do not receive a copy in the mail or if you would like the survey in one of the other seven languages available.

•     In February, students in grades 4, 7 and 10 and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school.

All surveys are anonymous and ask questions about experiences with your school. In addition to English, the parent survey is available in French, Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Cree, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog and Urdu. Please contact the school office if you would like the survey in one of these other languages.
Your participation in the survey helps provide important information on the quality of education your child is receiving. As the sample size in our area is quite small your feedback is valuable. It is very important to have as many surveys returned as possible, so we encourage you to promptly return your survey to Alberta Education.
Survey results will be available to school authorities in May, and will be reported publicly as part of the 3-Year Education Plans and Annual Education Results Reports.
Details about the Accountability Pillar and how to obtain results are available at www.education.alberta.ca/accountability.
