May 3 2019 : Mental Health Week, Technology & Today’s Youth, Phase 2 Update, News from the Office

Spotlight on Learning

The Trash Pageant was a huge hit at our recent Earth Day Assembly! The stage presence, remembering all their lines, costumes and enthusiasm made for a stellar performance by these grades 3-5 students. Thanks to the grade 6 Stage Managers, Mrs. Dominique Schmaltz and Ms. Kat Wiebe (RFTS) for directing the Trash Pageant. Fun fact:  Ms. Kat performed in this same play in 1993!

Mental Health Week - May 6-12
During Mental Health week at BES we will be encouraging Random Acts of Kindness, wearing hats for Mental Health on Wednesday, May 8, teaching lessons on thankfulness and gratitude, smiling at strangers and RFTS is hosting a Take 5! on Thursday, May 9 (please come!).

Technology & Today’s Youth
CRPS is pleased to have Dr. Andrea Halwas Larsen from Juno House Associate to come and provide a presentation on technology and today's youth at CCHS on May 27th, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Please click here for more details. Here is a quote from what to expect during the evening:
"In this 1.5 hour presentation, we will discuss the role of technology and today’s youth. The message of this presentation is not only based on technology, but also about a child’s healthy brain development and the necessary parenting/caregiver role in creating healthy, emotional, regulated, and integrated brains."
We also encourage you to bring your children with you, especially if they are in grades 5 and up.

Please Send Snacks on Hot Lunch Days
Children still require healthy snacks to augment the meal provided on Hot Lunch Days.  Nester’s usually donates a fruit or vegetable on Thursdays to accompany the Hot Lunch. On Tuesdays there is often no fruit or vegetable served with the main dish. On Subway day, one cookie is provide per child (not per sub). Please be sure to pack a snack each day and a vegetable or fruit along with a container and cutlery for your child on Hot Lunch Days.  Thank you for helping us provide a balanced meal for your child.

Phase 2 Update
We are due to move into phase 2 over the May long weekend (May 17-20)! Our fingers are crossed. More information will be sent home May 10.
