May 10 2019 : Phase 2 Update, Next Year: Moving?, Class Picture Day, Valbella Pickup, School Council AGM, Quest Theatre Performance

Spotlight on Learning

BES students make our school a great place to learn! Student Council (left) have worked diligently to foster positive habits of mind and actively looked for ways to make our school a better place to be.  Bravo to our two Gr. 7 teams who participated in the Science Olympics (an interactive, interschool engineering and geoscience event) last Saturday with the support of Mr. Conniff.

Potential School Closure: Tuesday, May 21, 2019

Phase 2 Update - possible school closure for students May 21
Pending the confirmation of occupancy for phase 2 of the new BES building scheduled for May long weekend, the school will be closed for students on Tuesday, May 21. Please note the occupancy date is beyond our control. As many of you know, construction has its own timeline! Movers have been booked over the weekend and staff will be setting up classrooms to ensure safe, welcoming learning spaces for students on Wednesday, May 22. This closure will be confirmed next week once we have a firm occupancy date. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. It may seem odd to be moving at this time of the year, rather than waiting until summer. This time is required to accommodate the decommissioning and demolition of the old BES building and restoration of the new field (so we may have somewhere to play in the fall!). More information will follow next week!

Next Year: Moving?
Please help us in our planning for next year by informing the office if your child is NOT attending Banff Elementary School for the 2019-20 school year.

Class Picture Day
Monday, May 13 - bring your extra big smile!

Valbella Fundraiser Product Pickup
Thank you to all those that supported School Council’s Playground fundraiser by placing a Valbella order. We raised nearly $5000 for our playgrounds. An additional $5000 was generously received from Rocky Mountain Telecom. Product pick up by each seller is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14 2:45 - 4:00 pm at BES. All items are frozen and must be picked up by the seller during this time. Please bring bags to carry home all your orders.

School Council AGM and Monthly Meeting
Come one, come all! Child care will be provided. We are meeting Wednesday, May 15 at 3:30 pm in the conference room. Parents play an important role in student success. School councils allow parents to participate in decisions that impact student learning. By contributing knowledge, perspective and ideas at school council meetings, parents are actively contributing to the success of our school community.

Quest Theatre Performance
May 16, 2019 1:30 pm BES Gym - families are welcome to join us for a theatre presentation.  The Quest Theatre Artist in Residency Program is a fun and engaging drama experience focussing on cultural stories. Grade 2 to 8 classes will each be given their own story/poem to work on for the week with an artist from the Quest Theatre team. All classes will attend the final performance.

Technology & Today’s Youth
CRPS is pleased to have Dr. Andrea Halwas Larsen from Juno House Associate to come and provide a presentation on technology and today's youth at CCHS on May 27, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Please click here for more details. Here is a quote from what to expect during the evening:
"In this 1.5 hour presentation, we will discuss the role of technology and today’s youth. The message of this presentation is not only based on technology, but also about a child’s healthy brain development and the necessary parenting/caregiver role in creating healthy, emotional, regulated, and integrated brains."
We also encourage you to bring your children with you, especially if they are in grades 5 and up.
If you have any questions, please contact debbie.mckibbin@crps.ca.
