September 27 2019:Terry Fox Run, Orange Shirt Day, Lunch Program, Digital Age, Growing Up Gifted, School Fees

Spotlight on Learning
Our first after school sporting event was held in the gym on Tuesday!  Gr. 7 girls from across the valley came together to play in their first tournament.  Sportsmanship and team spirit demonstrated by all four teams made the whole experience an exciting one for students, coaches and parents alike.

Terry Fox Run
In honour of a Canadian hero, Terry Fox, every student participated in the Terry Fox run.  We gathered in the gym to learn more about this humble Canadian and why we carry on. “I want to set an example that will never be forgotten” Terry Fox, 1981.  Our school set a goal of raising $850 for cancer research. Our school’s fundraising page is: Access to online fundraising will remain open until March 2020 (but let’s wrap this up by Thanksgiving!).

Orange Shirt Day!!!
On Monday, our school is participating in Orange Shirt Day.
Orange Shirt Day is here to educate and promote awareness about the Indigenous residential school system and the impact this system had on Indigenous communities for more than a century in Canada. Orange Shirt Day is held annually on September 30 in Canadian communities. We encourage students and staff to wear an orange shirt to school on Monday, September 30, 2019.

Lunch Program
Thank you for placing your order and for volunteering. Ordering is now closed for this lunch session. We are still in need of a volunteer to pickup food from Nesters on Thursdays (even if only a few times…). There are still spots open for serving lunch as well. Please contact our volunteer coordinator Gabby DeBaie at to volunteer. We need you to sign up to serve at least one lunch this session. We cannot run the program without the help of volunteers.

Bow River Collaborative Service Delivery
In partnership with Bow River Regional Collaborative Service Delivery, BES is working together to support students, families, and staff in the school. This year, members of the School-Linked Team will be visiting our school regularly. This Team may include:

● Jordan Bartlett, Speech-Language Pathologist

● Eva Langford, Occupational Therapist

● Mitch Sime, Physiotherapist

The School Linked Team may visit classrooms and work alongside teaching staff to plan and support students with universal and when necessary, targeted strategies. If any follow-up is required for your child, the school will contact you and upon your approval, a member of the School Linked Team will reach out for further consultation. If specific services and individual supports are required, your consent will be obtained prior to your child being seen.
