Spotlight on Learning
Grade 3 science curriculum includes learning about hearing and sound. Students have been exploring the nature of sound, its sources, its qualities and what it is. They learn about sound travel by studying what things carry sound, what things make it louder or softer, and what happens to sound when it reaches their ears. Our Grade 3 students have been learning about the safe use of this valuable sense.

Full Day Friday

Full day of School (8:30 - 3:05) Grades K - 8

Parking and Drop Off Zones
Please take a close look at the map below regarding the recommended traffic flow and drop-off/pick-up locations for your children. We have been working closely with the Town of Banff to make getting to and from school a safe experience for all students. ***Note there is NO stopping southbound on Big Horn - we have had several near-misses with cars having to brake suddenly to avoid hitting children running across the street to their parent’s vehicles who are stopped across the street. Please teach your child to use the crosswalk at either corner (Moose & Big Horn or Elk & Big Horn), or better yet approach the Big Horn Kiss N’ Go area northbound so your child does not have to cross the street. When the ‘road closed’ signs are in place on Squirrel Street (8am - 8:40am and 2:45pm - 3:15pm), please do not drive around them. These are in place for students’ safety. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Barricades
Help! We are looking for parents to help put out the barricades on Squirrel Street Wednesdays around 2:45pm. Please contact the office if you are able to assist us with this. After buses pull out at 8:30am and 3:15pm, assistance putting them to the side would be much appreciated too!

Lunch Program
School Council is thrilled to continue our lunch days program. The second lunch session will run from February 4 - June 18. The order system will open today and the order deadline is Sunday, January 26. Please click here for more information and the links to the order system. This program is a fundraiser for School Council and provides the opportunity for parents to buy nutritious and appetizing lunches for their children on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is a purely volunteer run program.  We are in need of volunteers. Please contact our volunteer coordinator Gabby DeBaie at gdebaie@gmail.com to volunteer. You can also sign up on the MunchaLunch website when completing your child's order. We cannot run the program without the help of volunteers.

Report Cards
Teachers are busy writing report cards. Parents/Guardians will be able to see marks/comments in Parent Portal as these are added over the coming days.
**Please note these marks/comments are not final until January 31**
All Report Cards will be accessed digitally through Parent Portal. If you require assistance logging in please contact the school office. PLEASE take the time to read your child’s report card.

Kindergarten Registration

We are now accepting Kindergarten online registrations for 2020-2021 school year! Please share with any families you know with soon to be Kindergarten-aged children. Registration is only online and the link can be found on our school website, Facebook page, and on Twitter. BES will be hosting a Kindergarten Open House on February 12 at 6:30pm at BES.

Community Lantern Event
Right from the Start is thrilled to invite your family to our upcoming community event! Right from the Start and the Bow Valley Primary Care Network have teamed up to present "What Lights You Up?". We are inviting everyone to celebrate community and connection by joining us for a lantern-lit walk.
Right from the Start will be coming to your child's classroom to talk to them about what lights them up. Our focus will be encouraging students to reflect on a time that made them happy and how a happy memory still positively impacts them. Afterwards, we will make a lantern with every student from Kindergarten to Grade 8 in Banff and Canmore for them to bring on the walk! So please send a clean jar to school with your child.
Students will then bring their lanterns home to show you. Please fill their lanterns with a light, flashlight, headlamp or whatever else is available so they are lit for the walk! There will also be free hot chocolate provided, so please bring your favourite mug.
This free event will be happening in both communities:
Canmore: January 31, 2020, at Riverside Park
Banff: February 7, 2020, at the Central Park Gazebo
Both events start at 6:30 pm on their respective days. Please come dressed for the weather, and prepared for a short walk. This event is open to the entire community, so please bring friends and family along! Please see the attached poster for more details.
We hope you can join us for our walk. We can't wait to see you!
