February 7, 2020: Report Cards, Kindergarten Open House, Annual Accountability Survey, Community Lantern Event

Spotlight on Learning
Did you know every parent is a member of School Council? School Council plays an integral role in the school. They advise the principal on a range of issues, consult with the principal to ensure students have opportunities to meet Ministry standards, etc., and one of our favourites: organize and run hot lunch!  The next School Council meeting at BES is Wednesday, February 12 at 3:20pm - child care available. Thank you School Council; we appreciate all you do!

Annual Accountability Survey - Calling Grade 4 & 7 Parents!

Grade 4 & 7 parents should have received an invitation from Alberta Education to participate in an annual survey called the Accountability Pillar mid January. We really hope that our Grade 4 & 7 parents can find the time to complete the survey by February 28 as your  feedback helps us to continue to improve the learning and school environment for students at BES. In addition to English and French, the parent survey is available in Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Dene, Cree, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog and Urdu. If you wish to receive the survey in one of these languages please contact the school office as soon as possible.

In February, all students and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school. All surveys are anonymous and ask questions about experiences with your school. It is an annual check-up on the education system and it provides an opportunity for Alberta Education and school authorities to ensure that we are equipping students for success.

Community Lantern Event
Right from the Start is thrilled to invite your family to our community event tonight (February 7)! Right from the Start and the Bow Valley Primary Care Network have teamed up to present "What Lights You Up?". We are inviting everyone to celebrate community and connection by joining us for a lantern-lit walk.

Students will bring their lanterns home to show you. Please fill their lanterns with a light, flashlight, headlamp or whatever else is available so they are lit for the walk! There will also be free hot chocolate provided, so please bring your favourite mug.

This free event will be happening in Banff tonight (February 7) at the Central Park Gazebo at 6:30 pm. Please come dressed for the weather, and prepared for a short walk. This event is open to the entire community, so please bring friends and family along! We hope you can join us for our walk.
