BES Students Share Their Song with the World

Banff Elementary School is pleased to present A Single Seed, an original song created and performed by more than 300 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. This heartfelt project was developed as a message to G7 Summit leaders, capturing the hopes and dreams of our students for a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world.
With support from Banff’s poet laureate Heather Jean Jordan, students engaged in thoughtful conversations about global issues and the changes they hope to see. Each grade worked collaboratively to explore themes such as environmental protection, poverty, equity, and kindness. Through guided songwriting workshops, students shared their ideas, wrote lyrics, and composed music that reflects the values they believe in.
The process was deeply rooted in student voice. Together, they examined complex topics and contributed to a school-wide creative effort that fostered reflection, collaboration, and global citizenship. The song’s title, A Single Seed, symbolizes the small but powerful role each young person can play in creating positive change.
The final performance was professionally recorded with the support of local videographer Brian White and will be shared across Canadian Rockies Public Schools platforms and submitted for consideration by G7 Summit organizers. This experience empowered students to see themselves as active participants in the world around them and to realize that their voices can make a difference.
We invite you to watch the full performance of A Single Seed and celebrate the incredible creativity, courage, and compassion our students have shown throughout this project. It is our hope that this song will serve not only as a message to global leaders but also as an enduring reminder of what young people can achieve when given the opportunity to speak from the heart.
