E-NEWS & Principal's Post

We’re sure many of our families have heard about the exciting G7 project that our students have been working on over the past month. This included some truly inspiring work with Banff’s Poet Laureate, Heather Jean Jordan. We are thrilled to share the final video of the song “A Single Seed,” written by our students and created for the G7 Summit in June. It was a tremendous learning experience for both students and staff, and a fantastic culminating project! You can watch the video on our website here: BES Students Share Their Song With The World
We’re also proud to share that our project was featured in the Rocky Mountain Outlook last week. You can read the article here: RMO Article
Well done, BES!
Our staff will be engaging in a full day of professional learning on May 16 at BES (no school for all students K-8). During this time, we will review the new CRPS 4-Year Education Plan, reflect on the BES School Education Plan, and plan professional learning goals for the upcoming school year. It promises to be a valuable day of collaboration and preparation as we look ahead to 2025–2026.
Next week on Wednesday May 21, we are excited to welcome our incoming 2025-2026 Kindergarten students and their families for our Spring Into Kindergarten event! Our newest BES learners will explore their future classrooms while parents learn more about the exciting opportunities and experiences awaiting their children at BES. We’re looking forward to a fun and welcoming event!
Join the Banff Bike Bus! We’re thrilled to announce a fun new event in partnership with the Town of Banff – the Banff Bike Bus on June 4, 2025! The Bike Bus is a group ride to school, supported by volunteers and parents. It promotes eco-friendly transportation, community building, and a safe, fun way to start the day. Students can join the Bike Bus at designated stops along a pre-planned route. The route map and pick-up times will be shared with all registered participants.
Important: All participants must register in advance. Once registered, you’ll receive safety guidelines, route maps, and waiver forms.
Register in person, online (Register here), or by phone at 403-762-1251.
Want to Volunteer?
We’re looking for parents to help supervise and ride along with our students. If you’re interested, please email Christine.LaRocque@banff.ca to sign up.
After the Banff Bike Bus, please join Right from the Start on the Elk Field at BES for a "Take 5"! Take 5 extra minutes in your morning to connect with your child(ren) before starting your busy days. Free coffee, tea and light snacks will be available from 8:15-8:45 am.
Spotlight on Learning
Grade 1 Spotlight
In the Grade 1 Social Studies unit on "My Family, My History," students have been presenting about themselves. Each of our families has their own unique histories, traditions and celebrations. Children need to know, understand and appreciate their roots (where they come from, where their ancestors originated from), hear stories about their family, and share these rich histories with others.
In Science, we have been learning about the needs of plants and through the "Plant a Seed and See What Grows Foundation" we have been growing an assortment of plants. We are observing and measuring their growth.
Grade 5 Spotlight
In 5M, students recently wrapped up their poetry unit with a heartwarming celebration where parents and families were invited into the classroom to hear students proudly share their original poems. This special event highlighted student voice, creativity, and confidence—key elements of Canadian Rockies Public Schools' Shared Vision of Learning.
Another exciting learning experience was our ‘Space Days’, where students engaged in hands-on, inquiry-based activities to deepen their understanding of our solar system. Through collaboration, curiosity, and critical thinking, learners explored space in meaningful and memorable ways. Both experiences reflect our commitment to nurturing engaged thinkers, ethical citizens, and lifelong learners.
