E-NEWS & Principal's Post

This week, we had the privilege of welcoming our Knowledge Keepers, Tracey and Cassandra, to our Grade 2 and 3 classes. During their visit, they shared with our students the significance of stories and storytelling in Indigenous culture. They also emphasized the importance of sharing circles, and they were deeply impressed by how respectful and engaged our students were while sitting in their own circle.

Our students took the opportunity to share a special project they had worked on, which honors our Elders and Ancestors. The project also recognizes and expresses gratitude to Philomene Stevens for the invaluable knowledge she has passed along to our students at BES and within our school division. The students’ beautiful work is now proudly displayed in the Den for all to see and appreciate.

We are incredibly grateful to have our Knowledge Keepers with us, and we cherish the wisdom and insights they continue to share.

Grade 1 and 5 teamed up to learn coding skills with these adorable BeeBot robots. Grade 5s took the lead and taught their Grade 1 buddies to write and program simple codes and to debug issues, and then sent their BeeBots off on mini adventures.

So much amazing learning has been happening in 5M!
Students have followed the ‘Design Thinking Process’ where they identified a problem and worked collaboratively to create a solution. The process involved ‘empathising’, ‘defining’, ‘ideating’, ‘prototyping’ and ‘testing’. Students have found solutions to many problems we face inside and outside of school. In Social Studies, we have been learning about Canada’s history. Students have been exploring the different ways of life for different cultures in Canada. We went on an excursion to the Whyte Museum where we learnt all about the past and how artifacts tell a story.

Volunteering
Banff Elementary School loves and greatly appreciates our volunteers! We require all volunteers who help in the school or on field trips to complete a Criminal Record Check through the RCMP and sign a Confidentiality Contract as per Canadian Rockies Public Schools’ Administrative Procedure 490 - School Volunteers and FOIPP. RCMP checks expire one year from the issue date. Prior to volunteering, please email your legal name to the school office at bes.info@crps.ca to request an RCMP Fee Waiver Letter and we will email you back the letter, required forms, and instructions. Often Criminal Record Checks can be completed by the RCMP within 24 hours. Please click here for more information on volunteering opportunities.

School Fees
For the third year, the CRPS board has decided not to charge lunchroom supervision fees for the 2024-2025 school year, reflecting our division's commitment to easing family financial pressures. Complimentary (CTF) course fees for Grades 7 and 8 students have been added to your Parent Portal account and were due by October 31, 2024. You can pay school fees online and obtain a copy of your invoice through your Power School Parent Portal account. Once you sign on, under navigation, click on Student Fees. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.
