E-NEWS Spotlight on Learning

Grade 8 students went on a walking field trip to the Legion cenotaph to lay our poppy rocks and then to the Old Banff Cemetery to set up candles and flags for Banff’s fallen soldiers.

On behalf of the local Legion and our Grade 7 and 8 students, we would like to extend a huge thank you to all families who donated glass jars to be used as candle holders for Banff's fallen soldiers buried at the Old Banff Cemetery. We also extend great appreciation to Naomi of Mountainscape Weddings who lent over 100 jars. All 367 soldiers will now have candles beside their graves to be lit on November 10th and 11th.

As part of a Remembrance Day project, each Grade 7 & 8 student has researched one soldier from Banff that fought in WWI or WWII. They have been uncovering information from the soldiers’  lives before deployment, researching the battles they fought in, and better understanding what their sacrifice meant to Canadians. Students will be participating in the Legion’s poster and poem contests with cash prizes from our local Banff Legion. Winning posters and poems will be sent to the National Awards level where winners receive $500 and a trip to next year’s Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa!
