E-NEWS: Grade 8 “Be a Light” Video, Grade 3’s Performing an Indigenous Song, Important Upcoming Dates, Parent Workshops, School Fees, Demographic Update, School Absence

Spotlight on Learning

Please enjoy this performance of "Be a Light" by the Grade 8 drama class to honour Orange Shirt Day. The song was written by country artist Thomas Rhett and has a universal message of empathy, love, compassion, and peace. He says he wrote the song “as a way to process negativity and sadness (he) was seeing in the world.” When we listen to the song through the lens of Truth and Reconciliation, it reminds us to listen, learn, believe, and try to make a difference. The song's message reinforces that we are all alike, deserving the same dignity and respect. In this performance and in life, actions can sometimes speak louder than words.

When you want to know about how water quality is affected by human activities in the Bow River, you might just need to "jump in a creek". Today, the Grade 8's collected scientific data about nutrients, oxygen, pH, turbidity, and aquatic invertebrates at 2 different sites on the Bow River. They also explored how building design, recreation activities, and municipal water use can be done in a way to minimize effects on the Bow River. With blue skies and the trees turning yellow, we had a wonderful day learning outside and having a lot of fun.

School Absence - Reminder

Regular attendance is the key to a child’s success at school. We do ask that parents keep their child at home if displaying any illness/COVID related symptoms to keep everyone safe and healthy. With regards to homework, as per our District-wide re-entry plan: ‘If a student is self-isolating or ill, teachers will support students to work from home as per typical practices when a student is ill and must remain at home, but is still able to complete school work. Learning will be provided asynchronously (not through real time/live classroom streaming).’ Basic literacy and numeracy tasks will be provided. The same applies for family holidays.
