Over the next number of weeks, I would like to highlight an area of the CRPS Shared Vision of Learning and how it is coming to life at BES. The Shared Vision of Learning defines our collective beliefs about learning that guide our actions  This week, I would like to highlight the following:

We believe instructional excellence and leadership are essential to ensuring each learner will flourish in our complex, exponentially changing and interconnected world. As life-long learners, we:

  • collaborate to support the ongoing learning of leaders to improve their practice through engagement in the Nurturing Excellence in Instructional Leadership (NEIL) process.
  • improve our teaching practice through the creation of annual Teacher Professional Growth Plans (TPGP) that are aligned with the Teaching Effectiveness Framework (TEF) and the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS).

I was fortunate to spend time with the Principal at Elizabeth Rummel School and our Indigenous Services Coordinator earlier this week. We observed a classroom lesson and collaborated during the NEIL process. This experience highlighted how, as leaders, we can provide feedback that fosters collaboration and growth among our teaching staff. It was a powerful reminder of our collective commitment to continuous learning and leadership development at CRPS.

Over the past two weeks, I've also been meeting with our staff to review their Teacher Professional Growth Plans. These individual conversations allow me to discuss their goals and explore how I can support their learning journeys or connect them with valuable resources. Additionally, these discussions help me stay engaged with our staff during my classroom visits.

If you would like to know more about the Shared Vision of Learning, please visit the CRPS Website.

We have an incredible team at BES dedicated to the growth and success of our students and themselves!

Spotlight on Learning
Grade 8 Spotlight

In Grade 8, students have been immersing themselves in a creative exploration of Jason Carter's art style, capturing his bold colours and unique perspectives. Every Friday afternoon, students dive into their own artistic projects, drawing inspiration from Carter’s dynamic work to develop their own pieces. Alongside art, science has taken centre stage with the Cells and Systems unit. Students have been investigating the microscopic world, using microscopes to examine various cell types and better understand the structures and systems within living organisms. This hands-on experience is not only enhancing their understanding of cells but also sparking a sense of wonder about the unseen worlds all around us.

School Travel Plan
The School Travel Plan is a way we keep our kids, parents, and teachers safe while travelling to and from school. Here is how you can help!
As parents, you play a key role in your child's safety in three ways:

  1. As teachers of safety behaviours.
  2. As role models of safe behaviours.
  3. As drivers near the school

Drivers near the school can help create an environment that feels safe and inviting for pedestrians and bicyclists by:

  1. Obey speed limits for the school zone.
  2. Come to a complete stop at stop signs.
  3. Do not pass a school bus with flashing amber lights and an extended stop sign.
  4. Do not block pedestrian crosswalks or make U-turns.
  5. Drop off only in designated Kiss and go zones.
  6. Watch for and yield to pedestrians and bicyclists near and around the school.

Students travelling to school can help keep themselves safe by:

  1. Always using crosswalks, sidewalks and/or paths.
  2. Stop at the edges of driveways and curbs and look for motor vehicles before proceeding.
  3. Walk, don't run across the street.
  4. When biking or riding a scooter, always wear a properly fitted helmet. - it’s the law!
  5. Do not carry anyone else on the bicycle. A bicycle with one seat is a bicycle for one person.

Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe each day at BES!

Volunteering
Banff Elementary School loves and greatly appreciates our volunteers! We require all volunteers who help in the school or on field trips to complete a Criminal Record Check through the RCMP and sign a Confidentiality Contract as per Canadian Rockies Public Schools’ Administrative Procedure 490 - School Volunteers and FOIPP. RCMP checks expire one year from the issue date. Prior to volunteering, please email your legal name to the school office at bes.info@crps.ca to request an RCMP Fee Waiver Letter and we will email you back the letter, required forms, and instructions. Often Criminal Record Checks can be completed by the RCMP within 24 hours. Please click here for more information on volunteering opportunities.

School Fees
For the third year, the CRPS board has decided not to charge lunchroom supervision fees for the 2024-2025 school year, reflecting our division's commitment to easing family financial pressures. Complimentary (CTF) course fees for Grades 7 and 8 students have been added to your Parent Portal account and are due by October 31, 2024. You can pay school fees online and obtain a copy of your invoice through your Power School Parent Portal account. Once you sign on, under navigation, click on Student Fees. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.

Students who arrive at 8:15 do not need to register for the Before School Care Program.
